The castle endured a lot of destruction over its lifetime. The worse occurred during an invasion by the French. The prince feared the town would be destroyed, raised the white flag and invited the invaders in. Sadly, the invaders took revenge by systematically destroying much of the castle. You can still see many of the ruins. However, a sufficient amount of the castle has been restored to make it a complete and exciting tourist destination.
A huge wine barrel, built to be the showcase of the castle wine cellar. Spectacular. Nothing like it anywhere else. It leaked!
